OH Ellie...you are SERIOUSLY in for a treat. I have never seen Rufus more glorious than as Lord Marke... Just try not to let beady raisin eyed Tristan get under your skin too much. (hahah Rue...now are raisins going to revolt against me as well? XD)

Yes, you must beware, Famke! While it is tempting to compare Franco/Tristan to all sorts of fruits and vegetables, almost any living organism, with or without a brain, would bristle at the comparison. For he shows no signs of life, much less sentience. Best not to risk their wrath. Far better to compare him to a mineral or a metal, such as iron pyrite ("fool's gold") or lead ("highly toxic," an "environmental hazard"). Now if you want to make plant life happy, compare it to Rufus, as done by Tipou in her most excellent essay on radishes, which is one of the most brilliant analyses I have ever read. rufussewell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=other&action=display&thread=938Ellie, I hope you really enjoy Lord MarkeTristan & Isolde!

TIPOU!!!!! And with only 3 posts now because of your Board problems. Not to worry, it will be back up to 3000 by next week! So happy to see you back! I'm so happy, in fact, that you can keep your $20 (which is probably Canadian anyway) to spend on a Rufus movie. To continue the Franco-bashing theme, I was flipping around the dial this morning and caught a glimpse of a familiar wooden-faced, teary-eyed twerp. I watched a bit, and then Robert DeNiro appeared. It turned out to be "City by the Sea," and by the time I got to a scene of Franco sitting under a pier, staring at his own hand with watery eyes, I realized that they must just grab him between takes and put drops in his eyes to make it look like he's crying--there's never any depth of emotion. Ok, I'm going to leave him alone for a while, except to post a link to a video that grabbed my attention because of the title, "James Franco Is an Idiot" www.spike.com/video/james-franco-is/2921395And to leave us with happy thoughts of Lord Marke, I'm posting a picture that I would caption, "Why in the world does she have her eyes closed?"

I have only been able to watch half of T&I tonight, I'm so tired from a field trip yesterday and my eyes keep closing!!! But Rufus as Lord Marke...oh my word...the man is a total delight and a joy to behold. I LOVE watching Rufus act, his screen presence is incredible and draws you to the character...almost as if no one else was in the film...I could watch him act forever!!! I'll continue the film tomorrow night. Does the Tristan character only have one expression? He's awful...the actress playing Isolde is superb as are most of the others but the person playing Tristan is a huge mistake..very empty and no presence at all in my opinion. And rueful, judging by the pic you have posted...I am going to really enjoy Lord Marke even more tomorrow night!!!

Ellie, Lord Marke is a wonder to behold! But more important than (well, just as important as ) his looks is how human Rufus makes him. It's sort of an underwritten role with some clunky dialog, but he absolutely makes Marke three-dimensional and believable. And you are so right about Tristan (James Franco). He doesn't get a lot of love around here. When you have time, I'd love to hear how you enjoyed the rest of the film.

Hi maz,
I enjoyed T&I but unfortunately it was a little spoiled for me because James Franco was so bad. I cannot understand why he was cast? Rufus was, as always, superb. As you say, a very human character and such a wonderful actor. He mesmerizes me. I did not find this film all together so good and was disappointed on the whole but certainly not from Rufus's point of view, just the whole production. In my opinion, it could have been better.

Ummmmm, who watches James Franco? No one~~~~~~~~~~~haaaa~~~~~~~~~ I don't like/buy the story, a girl hides a boy in cave and warms him by herself.........this story just happended in "Don Juan", I do remember this: "Any history is modern history", when I watched the movie, I really don't like T&I, and I pity the king, he is king, did what he must did, and do nothing wrong.......so, I just say the story is sock, and the king is too innocent... Whe RS was winking his green eyes, it's so cute, heeeeheeeee.
