I'm sorry, but the mark of a professional is to give you best effort no matter what. What an idiot, to try now to deflect criticisim from his own poor performance by trying to blame the director, the script, etc., etc. Beautifully summarised, I second that!

Please, JF didn't need any of that, he's an ACTOR!!!! You can tell by the way he stares off into the distance with glazed and watery eyes. I think you mean "ac-TOR!", luvvie!! LOL! Sorry, how could I forget! A leading part and surrounded by experienced and talented actors , what does he do? He bleats about 'not believing in the part' Grow up Franco! Nicely said! I'm sorry, but the mark of a professional is to give you best effort no matter what. What an idiot, to try now to deflect criticisim from his own poor performance by trying to blame the director, the script, etc., etc. Beautifully summarised, I second that! And I third it!

I was waiting for him to blame the pain in his knee for his permanent I'm-about-to-bawl look So now it's official that JF is an idiot, and in his own words, too You were outacted by everyone else on the set, including the sweet little boy who played Tristan as a child and the guys dangling from the nooses. That sums it up perfectly.

Well poor Mr Franco aside- he's obviously feeling intimidated by our dearest Rufus...Everyone I know who has seen this film has commented 'Why would anyone with any sense prefer a winy little boy to Marc?' Case closed ...
T&I is one of my favourites - a really beautiful film.

Thanks KQ for bringing this up again. As a teacher preparing audition pieces I would note that those students who accepted the part as written by the writer and not by their interpretation of the Character usually found the depth intended for that Character. Remember the decription of Rufus when Judy Dench was directing him at CSSD that RS did not mind how small the part he realised if all you had was to play the butler then you played it well. Drawing attention to yourself by trying to stand out is bad acting. The boy Franco - for that is all he was - needs to learn where to look as well as how to speak.

Tip , there can be no jokes about Franco , he is just too awful for words Also unfortunately for everyone , Roofie does have a habit of outshining them There they are "ACTING "their heads off and there he is .no acting showing.. just being Marke I read somewhere Star quality is when that person is the only one being watched whoever else is there . Roofie has that in abundance This sums it up for me! Rufus is Marc - and the rest are just "trying quite hard" ... Actually the actress who played Marc's sister was quite lovely and Sophy Miles - sadly I don't think that I have seen her in anything else - is very pretty but looks a bit lost at times ...(then again :-*I would look lost and dizzy too if I were standing so close to RS (Mr Pheremones himself!) Anyway no doubt I'm just beating a dead Tristan - but James was dreadful in this part - still I'm not an actor so I may be too unkind - he looks as if he is suffering from an upset tummy or dreadful allergies when on screen ... is that Tristan's suffering? Love Kq

Well I have to say it -- I just love T&I best... yes it is historically inaccurate ... but I don't care with this one! Woodlanders is subtle and elegant and Charles II is great...Victory is moving and Illuminata is so very beautiful but I'm a Marc girl ...can't help it! HEART

Dear Darwin I love this film.
But why? Why do I so love this movie above all of Rufus Sewell's other works? Woodlanders is more subtle, CCF is so damn funny - Victory is so darkly disturbing, Illuminata is so luminous - but T&I possesses me. Why is RS' interpretation of Marc at the center of my heart? Is it my love of Cornwall? My deep adoration and respect for Brythonic and Celtic prose and legend? My perverse devotion to characters who sacrifice their limbs for the sake of justice? My scholarship ought to damn this movie for all its inaccuracies - yet I am utterly in Marc's spell...at the risk of sounding too fan girly -(squeee) maybe it's that combination of strength sweetness and sexuality that RS uses in this performance that enthralls me. He's tough and tender, trusting and damaged, and the images that burn into my fever dreams - of him calmly rebuilding his ravaged fortress - unifying Dumnonia - and loving both his foster son (the wretched Woody) and his bride (the petty Isolde) in spite of their unworthiness these are the points that break all the bounds of rationality for me... I cannot imagine ANYONE ELSE who could possibly played this part better that Rufus and for anybody who knows me well - there is only one other actor who I could praise so highly as Mr. Sewell - especially pertaining to mythic characters.
Sorry for the loud rant but I'm struggling with a project at work and the stress just makes me reflect on Marc these days...a fascinating legendary character who - like Agamemnon - (HOT) suffered terribly and could be cruel - but who had such a great great heart. I'm working on another Marc & Yseult tale and I think I've been watching T&I for about 48 hours on a loop.
Maybe its the Sidhe maddening me, or the Lanvettr, or the Piskies or maybe its just the great green eyes of Red Rufus that have so glamoured me...
I remain Kernows queen - if only in my dreams... kq

If you don't own the DVD for this, I highly recommend it. There's a TON of behind the scenes stuff!
