@ge2: I was supposed to add Grace to that sentence. Oh well, blame it on a fit of passion for Marke (he was acting as my laptop background at the time of my post ;D ) you are such a clever girl -- and so perceptive. may you someday have your very own marke and may you make sure he lives up to his promises. Awww, thank you Anglophile!

I could never understand why Tristan was the one she loved (but then I don't understand the appeal of James Franco). I mean-Hello!- Marke- perfect freaking man. And if you really wanted to be with her, Tristan, why didn't you just *tell* Marke that she was the one that saved your life and that you fell in love when you towed her back home? Geez! Marke would have stepped aside. Gah!!! I have to admit, while Marke seems pretty forgiving, and while he might accept her back to be his wife, I would suspect it would then be a marriage of convenience (in the movie universe)- I mean there's only so much a man can take - even one as patient as Marke. And don't even get me started on the chick from the Woodlanders...

But if he'd done that, then there would only have been half a movie. See what you mean, though. Love your pic, btw. Showing a little leg there...... drool.

Yes, kitty, I suppose you are right - but if we all fastforward through JF angsting anyway... Yea, Aggie has got some nice pins, doesn't he?

I can understand why Isolde fell in love with Tristan. Very sheltered girl finds handsome young man, nurses him back to health, he's her first love, her first lover. So yes, I can see her falling in love with Tristan.
What I can't understand is her deceiving Marke after he's been so good to her and treated her with such respect. You can see in the scene in the market, she seems to be enjoying his company, genuinely likes him. And yet she has no trouble in betraying and humiliating him? That's what I found so hard to believe.
If nothing else, you would think as a king's daughter she's been brought up with the knowledge/expectation that she would do her duty. Women of her station at that time did not marry for love, they married for money and political advantage. She should have been on her knees thanking god that her "duty" came in such a appealing package.
Modified to add: Let's not even talk about that little twit Grace. I just want to slap her silly.

I can understand why Isolde fell in love with Tristan. Very sheltered girl finds handsome young man, nurses him back to health, he's her first love, her first lover. So yes, I can see her falling in love with Tristan. Exactly. Especially considering that she had previously been betrothed to that other brute (Morholt?). Even I might look at drippy, whiny Tristan as a savior under those circumstances. ....Ok, probably not even then. But still, you feel for Isolde. What I can't understand is her deceiving Marke after he's been so good to her and treated her with such respect. You can see in the scene in the market, she seems to be enjoying his company, genuinely likes him. And yet she has no trouble in betraying and humiliating him? That's what I found so hard to believe. Yes! Unforgiveable. The producers discussed the importance of giving her a "dilemma" (although of course we think there's none), and it's good storytelling, but it seemed to me that her pain over the infidelity was more about what she was doing to Tristan by being a "good wife" than it was about guilt over what she's done to Marke. Tristan was the one who seemed more worried about Marke. If nothing else, you would think as a king's daughter she's been brought up with the knowledge/expectation that she would do her duty. Women of her station at that time did not marry for love, they married for money and political advantage. She should have been on her knees thanking god that her "duty" came in such a appealing package. Right, again...it could have been Morholt. Modified to add: Let's not even talk about that little twit Grace. I just want to slap her silly. So many silly women who have rejected Rufus's characters...it's really sort of unbelievable, when you add them all up. But if he'd done that, then there would only have been half a movie. Yes, kitty, I suppose you are right - but if we all fastforward through JF angsting anyway... Maybe they should have released two versions of the movie. One for the teeny bopper/JF-fan crowd, and one for the intelligent viewers. ;D Saw this post on Twitter the other day. Seems we're not the only ones who think this way! Might just turn Tristan + Isolde off now that they've been caught. Is like to believe that Rufus Sewell wins

one of his favourite roles , to me, and one of the first of I have seen him in. I ADORED him as Marke...he was so incredibily gentle and kind ...so human. My jaw was on the floor and i took me a while till i managed to put it back:)

(the pic of Marke and Isolde on the bed made me laugh. I don't see how any woman on this planet could ever make that face while sitting on a bed with Rufus. It's just absurd! Kudos to Sophia Myles for her acting abilities though, because I for one would be a giggling mess if put in her position). I hope you're feeling better today, Meg! Sophia is making that face because the director just said, "No, I'm not kidding. Isolde is actually supposed to prefer James Franco, and you're going to have more scenes with him than you are with Rufus." I'm so glad you all like them too. I thought they were absolutely stunning--even the ones that didn't have Rufus in them! Just great photography. Okay, Rueful, you have found those fantastic series of stills of Zen and now this piece of wonder - I hope you'll use your magic wand again, I'm fond of gorgeous pictures! LOL! Adina, if I had a magic wand, I'm afraid the rest of you would never hear from me again. I'd be very, very busy. ;D Thanks for posting the pic Castenea! And thanks for the link to the photographer's site PGG! His pics for other films are just as good!
