I just saw T&I for the second time and I absolutely agree that Marke is gorgeous. Rufus IS Marke, and I particularly love his sad, kind or vulnerable moments. What a face to show the slightest emotion so easily.

I would like to make just one comment about this film, although I am sure it's been said before. When I saw it I thought, 'Why does Isolde go for that drippy Tristan when she is married to that gorgeous and noble Lorde Marke ?' I just think that if you are going to cast someone as Lorde Marke make him less attractive than the actor playing Tristan or at least try to make Tristan a bit more appealing.

Yes, we've wondered that a lot, Annie! I think I read that it was a vehicle for James Franco, but many of us here feel he was very wooden in the role.
Plus, the director wanted Isolde to have a real dilemma, to make her quandary more believable, so Lord Marke was made a very sympathetic character compared to other tellings of the story. The trouble is, that (coupled with Rufus's vastly superior acting skills) just made it even more nonsensical that she wanted Tristan!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm searching for a picture of Marke and his sister and that elderly guy watching little Tristan and his "cousin" practicing with their wooden swords. I love that particular look on Marke's face but so far haven't found any pic ... can any of you girls help?

Kissmekate, I'm sorry, I don't have a pic like this. But may I add that I'd also like to see a picture of the "younger" Marke (when Tristan was still a boy)?

I've watched it with my mother and we both were so furious about Tristan and Isolde. Why she didn't escape with Tristan? Because her father is so cruel and it's obvious that she dosen't like him or his decisions very much. And why for god sake didn't they told Lord Marke that they are in love in the beginning? In the end Lord Marke was very very kind with both of them.
I could continue but...well...the only thing I liked was Lord Marke. So I don't know if I will buy this film, because it's not very funny to watch a film and being furious during the whole film.
In the end you want to hug Lord Marke and whisper in this ear: "Forget this stupid Isolde. I have eyes, she hasn't!" ;D

My thought process was I might be living the fury and anger but towards the end, Rufus sure YELLED them out for me

That yelling scene is excellent. First he's all subdued and hissing with suppressed rage and suddenly it BURSTS out of him.

Then I wish I could climb into the TV and let him forget Isolde !

Sylvia, do you happen to know the book "Das Herz des Königs" by Viola Alvarez? She tells the T&I legend from Marke's point of view, and this time it's him who begrudgingly marries Isolde for political reasons and has to set his love for another woman aside.

Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did ... I think I'll read it again some time soon with Rufus-Marke in mind.
