Just caught the end of the last BBC points of view of the series. Ben someone of other from BBC was having viewers questions aimed at him. Then the presenter challenged him about the series that were cancelled. He mentioned Zen at the top of his list. Good on him!! It didn't get him anywhere though - just the same banal list of "exciting" new projects <yawn> the BBC has lined up for us. I get the impression the more hassle they get at the BBC, the more they dig their heels in. He did say it was a mutual decision to cancel these series. Which just means that DC decided it and all the yes men nodded. It's a good job for him I don't work there. I argue with everything ;D
p.s. sorry to hijack the PBS thread with BBC stuff.

Thanks Nell for pointing this out. Yes, the BBC are set on their decision and will not budge, even though the decision(s) prove very unpopular. I hope they will live to regret these decisions. You never know. The Zen TV Show page on Facebook is providing information, videos and pictures relating to Zen and is proving very popular. There are an awful lot of people mourning the loss of Zen who would like to see more. We are getting a lot of reaction from fans of Zen. Our aim is to keep up the momentum and popularity of the show and ultimately hope that when the present financial restrictions abate somewhat Zen will be taken on by another media company. All support would be gratefully appreciated although I understand that some people do not like Facebook. I didn't myself until after I had joined the Rooftop and made some friends on there with the mutual interst of a certain Mr. Sewell!

I want to add to robela's post that FB is not loved by many, but is something that is popular at the moment and could be helpful in many ways. I dislike facebook, twitter and all that so called social network-ing, but can't escape the reality of the situation. If this is the way to keep in touch with friends from all over the world, than let it be. I do not approve of FB being used for commercial activity, but it is what it is, the money dictates the actions. Now about BBC and Zen. I cannot be sure, but axing Zeb could be also a marketing trick. We don't know a lot of inside information regarding the show and its future. It is proving popular, different, good and loved by many. I learned recently that the executive producer Andy Harris and his company are actually part of BBC, so what is going on inside we will never know. I know BBC as distributors have put in 40 % of the money to develop the first 3 series. Now, to find those missing 40 % and another so stable distributor as BBC is going to be difficult. Actually, in a development of a movie or TV film the main and almost only dictator of the action is the company distributing it. Without distributor the show is simply folded. The movie business is quite a dangerous, complicated battleground, where it is not necessary that the good quality is the one sought for. The art side is slowly fading away. That is one of the reasons actors like Rufus Sewell are not as popular or appreciated as they deserve to be. Not fare, but can't change it. Zen is made for TV in a strange 90 min. format (corrected: standard UK TV series format), filmed at a very expensive location like Rome and parts of Italy, with a little bit old-fashioned style and charm. All of this sums up to a very risky project to do. My thinking is that the producers have known the risk from the beginning. That's why they have made 3 series at once. Probably these will be the only 3 series of Zen. Only time can tell. ..... Ladies, only to correct myself here: I DO HAVE HIGH HOPES ZEN WILL CONTINUE.

Chocolate, just to correct you slightly, 90 minutes is a standard length here for an episode of a series such as Zen, so I don't think that contributed to it not being picked up. The main reason for that was clearly Danny Cohen wanting to make his mark on the BBC's schedules as the new controller. The expense of it was probably another factor, although I would guess secondary (otherwise why make any of it at all?).

Rumors over here into cine-tv entourage say Zen was cancelled because it was a too much intelligent and smart series.

GreenEyesToo, I didn't mean it was canceled for being 90 mins. Only wanted to say it was different ( I thought it was different...). I actually didn't know that 90 m. is standard in UK. I was watching "Grey's Anatomy", "The vampire's diaries", "Gossip Girl" (I know they all are not UK TV, and I have watched from time to time), and thought that 40-45 min is standard.
Well, for whatever reason it was cancelled, I hope someone corrects that mistake. If it was cancelled for being too good, what can we say, such an excellent marketing strategy!!!
chocolate is off to educate himself a little more on TV specifics...

He does look great in a suit!
Just want to say, not that it was implied, that I do not dislike facebook. I am just not that into social networking. I only visit 2 sites and they both have to do with Rufus Sewell. I realize I am very behind the times, but I just dont want all that stuff out there and dont want any more distraction to my life. I know I would spend time I dont have there. My kids do the twitter and FB stuff, but will not friend a site I like...that would not be "cool". I will support Zen and Rufus in any way I can. Its just a choice I have made, but I know lots of people enjoy FB and I think that is great! Support for Zen and Rufus there doesnt hurt.

There are a lot of people who do not like Facebook. As I say, I only use Facebook because of interest with other Rufus fans. I opened an account years ago but never ever used it until the last few months. I hope I have not offended you because none was intended.

Hey Robela. I know the point was not aimed at me or anyone else. Thats why I said "not that it was implied". I just wanted to let the FB people know why I wasnt there supporting Zen or networking in general. I am not offended at all and hope it did not come across that way. I think its great what you are doing and love the updates on any progress there.

I was a devil (very cute one, I have to say) and made my mother, sister and father support the show. Also found for them an online version with Russian translation!!! (my father loved it though). None of them had anything against a good TV show. So I was devious and fare at the same time, wasn't I? ;D ;D ;D
BTW: My dad said something that surprised me a little. He said Rufus reminded him of Armand Assante (very young one).
