Bummer... I have occasionally trouble hearing what's being said on my trusted laptop that doubles as DVDplayer and 'need' the subtitles to miss nothing. On the other hand, I get blown out of my chair when there are loud sounds or explosions in the background. Go figure. BTW, is there any reason why this DVD doesn't show up on Amazon? Is it that limited, select and independent?

We don't have a blue ray Player so I had to wait until recently for Hotel Noir to come out on DVD in UK.
I went back to the posts on this film and was a bit surprised to find no review. ( Or did we lose them?) Anyway having seen it twice now, here is mine I am a bit of a Luddite-in-reverse where films are concerned! I love the excellent sound tracks and the wonderful colours of today's films. I have no objection to 'old' black and white films. What I don't like, is new 'silent' films and I can never see the point of filming modern films in black & white. And I don't like paying to see them. Of course, I bend my own rules where Rufus is concerned though it was a little grudgingly.
But
If I hadn't bent my rules, I would not have seen this little gem. I thought it was going to be a parody at first. No. It is a pastiche of 1940s films. The unhappy little man laughing sadly at himself; the third-rate blonde singer, beaten up by her ex, who secretly knows she will never make big; the glamour girl running away from her past; the tired world-weary detective in love with the wrong girl. There was a slight underlying thread of humour through most of the film almost until the end when it disappeared in sadness. It could have been mawkish but it wasn't. Of course this was down to the superb acting of Carla Gugino, Danny De Vito.. and Rufus.
Did anybody else think that the Danny/Carla story was a take on from Breakfast at Tiffany's ?? The singer 's story taken from Doris Day/ James Cagney film 'Love me or Leave me'. and was Felix the weary other side of the street sharp Parker? This is not in any way a criticism. I did enjoy this!
One little whinge... Roof, don't let them Brylcream your hair again.

One little whinge... Roof, don't let them Brylcream your hair again. I actually thought it looked less bad than I would have expected ... but of course there's nothing like those original curls! I never managed to give this one a proper review. Hopefully, I'll get around to watching it again some time soon. Edited to say I found the thread with some reviews/opinions: rufussewell.proboards.com/thread/2491/hotel-noir?page=26
