Holy cow, Friar! You've been busy!!! I can't decide on seeing Evan Almighty or Ocean's 13 (well, actually I'll see Ocean's 13........I'm just not sure I want to pay to see it at the theater!) I have absolutely no interest in Spidey or Fan4. I was so sure I would RUN to see Fan4....... but the previews look awful, all my friends that have seen it didn't like it, all the critics that I halfway agree with didn't like it and my daughter said it was the worst movie ever (remember, at 17, "ever" is about 2 weeks, maximum).
I did see Mr. Brooks and, shockingly, enjoyed it very much! Kevin Costner actually earned part of his paycheck for this one! He ACTED! I've seen Pirates 3.........and, for strictly entertainment, it was better than I thought it would be. The girls loved it (duh) and hubby hated it......said he'd never see another Pirates film again.
We rented "Breach" tonight, really ready for an "edge of your seat" fun film............we were only on the edge of our seats, ready for it to end. We were both so disappointed. I also rented Beowulf and Grendel.........for a little Gerard action.......and the first 4 episodes of Deadwood, to see if we like it enough to rent all 3 seasons. So we'll see!

JUst saw Marian Cotillard as Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose...it is quite a tearjerking tour de force performance. THere were some outstanding child parts , as well. Have to google up some more data on it. Have never seen Cotillard before .

Like catdishy, I also saw this movie this weekend. I *highly* recommend it for those who love seeing great performances (Marion Cotillard) or someone who might be interested in knowing more about Edith Piaf: www.edithpiafmovie.com/

I saw Paris je taime at the theatre a couple days after Surf's Up. Well I have a grandson, so it's my duty and my pleasure. Oh of course, we saw Shrek3. I love Shrek. And before that Spiderman 3, it was good.
Homeviewing....I rented Miss Potter. It was good since I didn't have any expectations. I adore Ewan, so it was kinda a must see for that reason. LOL.
I want to see La Vie en Rose, Ocean 13 and Fantastic 4 (mmm...Chris Evans and Julian McMahon, I'm shallow, what can I say? LOL)
Other movies currently sitting by my dvd players are Extreme Ops and Helen of Troy. I just finished them and they are ready to be sent back so I can get my other Rufus movies that I haven't had the pleasure to see yet on my movie queue at Blockbuster.

Not a recent film, but has anyone seen Topsy-Turvy about Gilbert and Sullivan producing The Mikado?
I ask because Shirley Henderson is in it playing Yum-Yum and Kevin McKidd(another of my favorites) is playing Nankie-Poo which of course means they both sing. And boy does Kevin McKidd sing. Yeow, what a voice. And what a waste of his talent for him to be on a US television show about a man who travels back and forth in time. However the man has a wife and 2 children and the pay is probably good.
Jim Broadbent is in this one as well.

I got it on DVD. It's from 1999. It's not particularly easy to find. I actually had to buy it, but you might have better luck in Canada.

Not a recent film, but has anyone seen Topsy-Turvy about Gilbert and Sullivan producing The Mikado? I saw that movie when it came out years ago (and loved it!) I've been dying of curiosity to see it again, as several of the actors in it that I had not heard of at the time have gone on to become better known. (Like Kevin McKidd, Shirley Henderson, Andy Serkis.) Its a WONDERFUL movie and an absolute MUST for Gilbert and Sullivan fans (of which I consider myself one.)

Our library is really good at ordering things, I'll see if I can get them to purchase it. I had heard that Dance to the Music of Time with Puresex was magnificent so I requested it and they purchased it - saved me $50. And speaking of something for nothing - this company is giving away copies of a Adrian Paul movie that is said to be his best performance since Highlander, here's a link in case anyone is interested. I am told they send you no junk mail or spam but you MUST live in the USA. www.heretv.com/freedvd

I've actually seen the AP film, PR. It's not bad. Adrian is pretty good in it. Originally the character he played is investigating the death of his lover (IIRC), but they seem to have downplayed that on the DVD version I got from Netflix. I don't know if there is another cut or not.

Speaking of recent films, since you can't get much more recent than what films are opening this weekend here in the US, I highly recommend both 3:10 to Yuma and Shoot 'em Up to anyone who is the least bit intersted in either.

Yesterday, straigth from Venice film Festival I saw the winner movie by Ang Lee "Lust, Caution" (good and meticulous) & "Sleuth" by Kenneth Branagh with Michael Caine & Jude Law, the remake of the 1972 Mankiewicz film with Laurence Olivier & Michael Caine (who made the current Jude's role at that time). I've recognized the story that I loved very much the first time I saw that movie , I didn't guess it was the same film (the italian title of old one was "Gli Insospettabili "), I like this exciting version by Kenneth Branagh, Jude and Michael are bloody fantastic! Tomorrow I'll be going to see other two films from Venice, those ones by Peter Greenaway and by Ken Loach.

I love me a bit of Gilbert & Sullivan so I'll definitely have to seek out Topsy-Turvy. It was featured in Ep 4 of British Film Forever and it looks good!

Shoot 'em Up - don't bother - don't waste your $$$, it's of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.
