It was just great. Rufus really had a ball with Jan, playing him with so much zeal that at some points he sort of 'out synched' the story. There's that moment where Magda and Jan are in his flat and Ferda drops by for Magda thinking that Jan is at work and Rufus reacted with so much glee that the follow up of him suddenly realising what happened 5 minutes later didn't really work. It's hard to explain it but let me emphasise that it was all good because you could just tell how much fun he was having on stage. It really was 'a joy' as Jan would say.

Stoppard was there but didn't come on stage.

There were no speeches (boo!) but I did manage to capture the final bow:

Uke, that was fantastic of you! It gave me chills just watching as if I can imagine being there!
I'm so happy the play was in New York and was such a success for them, but so sad now that they've done their final show. Thanks for sharing that moment with us.

This is only for anyone who needs a “Rufus” fix. I went to the show Sat Mat. Before I went-- I mailed Rufus a gift, a card and the picture of me, TerriMac, Acousticgirl, LeeLee and Michele. I told him we were members of the roofsewell.com website. I sent him personalized M&M’s. They were red and yellow to match the theatre’s marques. On one it said ROCK-n-ROLL and the other said NYC 2007 2008. In the card I thanked him for his great perfomance and also for being so kind to all of his fans—that I loved just standing back and watching him with his fans. I told him I would be lurking by the stage door sat just to say “hi” (as I have a signed postcard, program and picture with him). I was standing there by the stage door but closer to the street when I turned around and saw him ..He came right up to me and I actually managed to finally have a normal conversation with him with eye contact and everything. He thanked me for the M&M’s and said he wasn’t going to eat them—He was going to put them on his mantle and save them as a show momentum—although he knew they might get moldy after a while. I told him “all the girls” from the website wanted to know where “The Eleventh Hour” was going to be filmed. He said in LA and he was starting on Wednesday and that breaks arent always good. Also he has no home (If I had been my usual sarcastic self I would have thought to ask …so what mantle are you putting those M&M’s on? ) He said he was ready for some sunshine. I told him it had rained all 5 times I had been there. He said “So it’s your fault” and said eveyone usually blamed it on him because he was from London. Then he said “you need to know” (which I found amusing) ;D that I am only in about 14 seconds of John Adams. They had promised him a re-write but they didn’t do it so it will be not doing any of the promo work for it. I said that was terrible and they didn’t even but his name on the poster for it. There were posters all over NYC for it. We told him to have a great last 3 shows. He was his usuall charming self. The show was great and the audience exceptional for a matinee

Great story Kriss!!!!OMG, a conversation with eye contact!!! I bow to you, you are my new hero:) That was a great idea with the M&M's:) I'm all giddy again. You have made my day with this story...I've been having horrible problems with my email and can't upload my pics. (that's why I haven't sent them) I'm gonna try right now to upload them to photobucket to get them on this board. It didn't work before but maybe it'll work this time.

uncorked, That is so fantastic that you and Rufus had such a nice conversation. What a wonderful memory for all your loyal visits to RnR from Maryland!
Someone did say on this board that Rufus sold his house in London before he came to New York. Poor guy! Speaking about mantels, what does he do with all his belongings -- car, furniture, clothes, awards . . . like certain statues . . . I hope that storage company is taking good care of his "doodads" -- or we might just have to volunteer to divvy them up amongst us and hold them "safely" for him until he's settled again Do you think he'll let us???
